Why should babies be tested for deafness?

The earlier a baby's hearing impairment is identified and an appropriate intervention introduced, the better the child's chances of developing good language as they grow up.

Cumbria provides a screening test for all babies to check whether they are responding normally to sound. This is carried out by the Health Visitor when she visits a home when the baby is around 10 days old.

Your Health Visitor is always happy to answer questions and provide information, don't hesitate to ask her if you have any queries.
